The University of Eldoret has condemned what it described as “unfortunate and unacceptable” utterances allegedly made by one of its part-time lecturers during a teaching session.
The institution said the remarks were reportedly made while the lecturer was teaching SHUM 211: State and Society Development on September 24, 2026, at the university’s ED5.
The university said the remarks did not represent or reflect its position, policy or official views.
“The University wishes to state unequivocally that the utterances attributed to the said lecturer do not represent, reflect, or in any way constitute the position, policy, or official views of the University of Eldoret,” the institution said.
The university said it expects all members of staff, including part-time lecturers, to maintain high standards of professionalism, academic integrity, respect, inclusivity and responsible conduct.
It added that staff members are required to comply with university policies, applicable laws, professional standards and obligations arising from their engagement with the institution.
According to the statement, the university has already initiated disciplinary action against the lecturer.
“Accordingly, the University has instituted immediate and appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the applicable University policies, regulations, and principles of due process,” the institution said.
The university said it would take all necessary measures where the conduct of a staff member is found to be inconsistent with its standards.
The institution further reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the dignity, rights, safety and welfare of its students and staff, describing itself as a national and international institution serving a diverse student population from Kenya and beyond.
The university said it remains committed to the rule of law, institutional accountability, academic professionalism, equality and non-discrimination.
The statement comes amid heightened scrutiny of remarks made in academic and public institutions, with universities facing pressure to ensure that teaching environments remain professional, inclusive and respectful.
