Police are investigating an incident in which a matatu ferrying mourners had its windows smashed by unknown people following a dispute at Lang’ata Cemetery, Nairobi.
The incident was reported at Lang’ata Police Station on September 29, 2026, after the driver of a Toyota Shark reported that his vehicle had been attacked as he drove out of the cemetery.
Police responded to the scene and rescued the matatu, which was carrying mourners who had attended a burial ceremony.
Police established that the matatu had been hired from Dandora to transport the mourners to Lang’ata Cemetery.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the mourners had allegedly used concrete meant for another burial to cement their graveside without the permission of its owners.
The move reportedly angered the owners of the concrete, resulting in a confrontation at the cemetery.
The mourners subsequently fled the cemetery in several vehicles amid the commotion. The matatu reportedly lagged behind the other vehicles and was attacked as it made its way out.
Its windows were shattered during the incident.
No injuries were reported.
Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the subsequent damage to the vehicle.
Meanwhile, police in Meru are investigating an incident in which a group of people allegedly invaded a dairy society office and damaged property at Kathorine Factory grounds in Imenti North.
The incident occurred at about 9:30pm on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, along the Gitembene-Mate Road.
According to police, Mukami Dairy Society chairman Edward Mutwiri M’Muga reported that a group identifying themselves as members of the Mwiriga clan invaded the organisation’s offices and damaged property whose value had not been established.
Police officers visited the site.
Investigators established that the group was believed to comprise local residents opposed to the official opening of the dairy office, which had been scheduled for Wednesday.
The attackers allegedly damaged the office building, cut down trees within the compound and barricaded access roads with large rocks. The group also allegedly forced the watchman to leave the premises.
Police established that the disputed land belongs to the Miriga Meru Society, whose management had agreed to allocate the site for construction of the dairy office to enable local farmers to sell their milk.
The decision had, however, reportedly faced opposition from some local residents.
Following the incident, the police advised the dairy management to postpone the planned launch to prevent further escalation. The matter is expected to be presented to the Imenti North Sub-County Security Committee for further directions.
No deaths or injuries were reported.
The scene was processed and documented as investigations continue.
