Uber Kenya has announced more incentives for drivers in its network as it battles claims of exploitation of the growing community of partners.

According to Uber Kenya’s Zethu Mthethwa, after meeting the driver-partners, Uber is putting in place some short and long term measures aimed at bettering the relationship.

While you will still be able to get uberCHAPCHAP and uberX for as low as Ksh 100 and Ksh 150 respectively, incentives for driver partners will go up by close to 10%.

This means that driver-partners will see their earnings increased by 10% without increasing the cost to riders.

Uber is also negotiating with key partners to have its drivers enjoy discounts on vehicle maintenance, insurance, financing and more.

Uber has tried to redeem image in the country as it locks a great community of driver-partners. It has faced accusation of exploitation, insecurity and abuse of drivers under its wide network.

Drivers in Kenya staged protests in July demanding that it improve their earnings. The drivers claimed that all other services peg their payouts on what Uber does so if Uber improves their earnings, all the other operators in the ride-sharing industry would improve.
