A Nation Journalist is nursing serious tissue injuries on knees, palms, the back and elbows at a local Kisumu hospital after what he describes as a horrific kidnapping saga, only seen in movies.

Barrack Oduor is a reporter with the Nation and is based in Homa Bay.

On Monday night Oduor was meeting with a story source in Migori when things quickly went south. The source, Michael Oyamo is apparently Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s personal assistant and was in the company of a woman only identified as Sharon.

The three were meeting over an alleged scandal in an unidentified company.

The initial meeting point, the reporter and photojournalist says was at Rodi Kopany township, Homa Bay but there was a quick change of plans. The venue was set for Rongo town, Migori.

“The governor’s personal assistant had initially called the lady, Sharon, for us to meet for a tip-off in Rodi Kopany township (in Homa Bay) but changed the venue of the meeting to Rongo town in Migori County,” said Mr Oduor.

Oduor waited for Oyamo for over an hour and as soon as he arrived, said the venue was not “conducive” for that kind of a meeting.

He asked Oduor to follow him outside where they found a car waiting. Inside were two men who confiscated their phones.

The source, Oduor recounts, alighted once they got to town and upon reaching Nyangweso market the two men tried to strangle him but he managed to fight back.

He jumped out of the moving vehicle and ran for his life.

He reported the matter to the police and is admitted at the Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu.

The County Government of Migori has not yet spoken on the matter.

On August 16, two Nation journalists, Karim Rajan and Laban Walloga were roughed up by workers and security guards at the construction site of Dolphin Hotel, located near Pride Inn Flamingo Resort in Shanzu, Mombasa.

The hotel, which is apparently connected to Deputy President William Ruto has encroached into the Indian Ocean.
