The Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Co-operatives (KUSCCO) Limited has officially been placed under liquidation following the cancellation of its registration by the Commissioner for Co-operative Development.

The decision was announced through Gazette Notice No. 13907, published in a Special Issue of the Kenya Gazette dated August 31, 2026.

In the notice, Commissioner for Co-operative Development David K. Obonyo stated that KUSCCO’s registration had been cancelled and the union ordered to undergo liquidation.

The Commissioner cited liquidity challenges and KUSCCO’s failure to achieve its objects as some of the reasons for the decision.

The notice also states that members of KUSCCO passed a resolution seeking the dissolution of the union in accordance with the Co-operative Societies Act.

The Commissioner appointed three officials to oversee the liquidation process.

The liquidators will serve for a period not exceeding one year and will be responsible for taking custody of KUSCCO’s properties, books and documents and overseeing the completion of the liquidation process.

They are CPA Peter Wanjohi Kiama, Deputy Commissioner for Co-operative Development; Habil Olembo Jesse, Principal Co-operative Officer; and Mariam Adam Abubakar, Deputy Chief State Counsel.

The liquidators will also be expected to undertake the necessary steps to wind up the affairs of the union in accordance with the law.
