The National Police Service has upgraded its Integrated Command and Control system covering Nairobi and Mombasa in partnership with a Japanese electronics company.

The system will incorporate facial recognition capability and will help in fast and accurate identification of suspects.

In 2014 President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned a Sh437 million command centre to co-ordinate traffic operations and crime management using CCTV cameras in Nairobi.

Based at the office of the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet at Jogoo House the centre had 80 screens and a number of telephone lines which the officers manning it used to co-ordinate operations in the city.
