The car lost control in a video that has been widely shared on the internet. One person has been confirmed dead and at least 9 others nursing injuries.
The rally, taking place in Busiika, attracted huge numbers of fans who are seen scampering for safety as the car skids out of control.
The motor rally event was dubbed ‘Kiggwa Kw’olwo’. According to the police, the driver was apparently trying to save a thief who had stolen a phone from one of the spectators.

“Most people never knew why the others were running; creating panic at the time the vehicle reached this spot. Although the driver tried to brake, it was too late thus ramming into bystanders,” an eyewitness told police.
The rally was a fundraiser for a rally driver, Ponsiano Lwakataka, to help raise funds for a Subaru N12B rally car for next season.
