A Catholic priest was on Monday shot in Kiambu’s Kinoo area.

Father Samuel Muhia, who before his untimely death was in charge of Kinoo Parish, was shot in the chest by four unidentified thugs.

County Police Commander Andiel Nyange said that the assailants were on two motorcycles which they used to block the Father’s vehicle.

They instructed the priest to hand over a bag that was in the car before shooting through the windscreen.

The bullet hit Muhia in the chest, Nyange said.

The deceased was on his way to the bank to deposit the previous day’s offering.

“All the money he had in a bag was stolen. We don’t know the amount but we are investigating. The robbers stole the phone of an occupant in the Father’s car,” he said.

Eye witnesses say that the unknown men took the bag and the Father’s phone before fleeing the scene of incident.

He was rushed to Kikuyu Hospital when he was announced dead on arrival.

In a 2017 crime report, Kiambu County had the highest number of crimes reported to the police. Of the 76,986 cases reported to police countrywide last year, 6,006 were in Kiambu followed by Meru (5,117), Nairobi (4,954) and Nakuru (4,133).
