Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Note “phablet” has sold more than 5 million units. Samsung now controls 67% of the South Korean phone market while it has a marginal share of the sales of smartphones in China, France and Spain with the Galaxy Notes driving uptake in a major way.

Other countries seeing the uptake of the Galaxy Note “phablet” are France, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands. Samsung announced that the sales of the Galaxy Note was at 2 million around the end of February meaning that there has been accelerated uptake in the last one month.

A source at Samsung Kenya intimated to me that the company sold more than 15 Galaxy Notes “phablets” on the day of the launch of the Samsung Premium Branded Shop at the Junction Shopping Mall the size notwithstanding.

The device boasts a dual-core 1.4GHz Exynos processor, 32GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel camera, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and a massive 5.3-inch WXGA Super AMOLED display.

Samsung recently released a Galaxy Notes Tablet 10.1
