An online taxi driver is on the receiving end after the taxi hailing company he works with scammed him out of his hard earned bonuses and commissions.

The Taxify driver identified as Jones Kubai has accused the Estonia based company of refusing to update his bonuses in his account from December 18, 2018 until now.

The company ran campaigns that indicated that should a driver make 30 trips in a week they would receive Sh5,000 and an extra Sh2,000 for 50 trips.

Mr Kubai completed 33 trips between Thursday, December 6 and Sunday the 9th. For these trips Taxify owed him Sh2,500.

The company owed him another Sh2,500 for 50 trips completed between Monday 10 and Sunday 16 December, 2019.

Apart from being denied his dues for well over a month, Kubai also had his application shut down after a drunk woman falsely accused him of assaulting her.

Speaking to Kahawa Tungu, Kubai explained that the drunken woman had requested a ride from Kitsuru to Gumba Estate off Thika Road but made a stop at Total Petrol Station due to a puncture.

The woman, whose identity he did not disclose, was rude and disorderly.

He further explains that Taxify suspended his account without investigating the issue which he says was caught on camera at the petrol station.

Kubai also says that the woman is yet to press charges against him even after causing him his job.

Online taxi drivers have in the past protested over poor pay and what most call exploitation by the firms running the taxi hailing apps.

Most of the times however, these drivers have been accused of swindling their riders by manipulating the authentic apps location (GPS) readings.

These apps then create a parallel travel path that prolongs the journey hence hiked charges.

Taxify has in the past admitted to noticing the use of fake GPS itinerary but maintains that its drivers cannot manipulate trip distances.
