    7 Men Arrested For Impersonating Senior Gov’t Officer, Socialites To Defraud Public

    Seven men were arrested on Saturday for impersonating a senior government officer to defraud members of the public.

    According to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the men, who are also accused of impersonating socialites, were arrested after an intense operation.

    “Seven fraudsters who have been imitating a very senior govt officer and socialites to obtain money by false pretences were arrested today after an intense operation,” said the DCI.

    The seven were identified as, Joseph Waswa, Duncan Muchai, Isaac Wanyonyi, William Simiyu, David Luganya, Gilbert Kirunja and Antony Wafula.

    During the operation, detectives recovered four vehicles including a Toyota Land Cruiser V8, Toyota Mark X and Toyota Axio that the suspects were allegedly using to run their activities.

    According a police report, the suspected fraudsters were mostly targeting the Indian community.

    They are set to be arraigned on Monday to face charges of obtaining money by false pretense among other counts.
