Boniface Murage’s story caught the attention of most Kenyans, who expressed remorse and admiration over his love for a daughter whom he smuggled out of Kenyatta Hospital over a Ksh56,000 bill.

On Thursday, President Uhuru Kenyatta also expressed concern over his case in reference to how it was handled by the courts.

Speaking during the burial of his close friend, the late Mzee Kamau Kabugi, in Murang’a County, the President expressed concern over how Murage was arrested, arraigned in court, and sentenced, all in a period of 24-hours.

According to the Head of State, the officials involved in the prosecution of Murage’s case moved in too much haste over what he termed as very little money, while graft cases are being dragged for months.

The President lamented: “We saw a young man being arrested for sneaking his child out of a hospital and was charged and released the same day. Why not do the same with those accused of stealing billions?”

Speaking just hours after attending the release of the Judiciary 2017/18 report, the Commander-in-chief rubbished the Judiciary’s claim that they were committed to a speedy conclusion of corruption cases.

He further asserted that the nation is tired of losing money to state officials.

“I told them not to wait until Kenyans take the law into their own hands,” Uhuru noted.

On Friday morning, the President reshuffled his cabinet, which led to the sacking of former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa.

This comes a day after detectives raided a house in Ruiru house confiscating over Ksh32 billion fake money, both in local and foreign currency.

It is alleged that the house belongs to the former Sports CS Rashid Echesa.
