Investigations into an incident where robbery suspects at Drive in stage long Thika Super Highway hurled a device suspected to be a grenade are complete.

According to Nairobi Police Commander Philip Ndolo, the device was not a grenade but a teargas canister.

The device had been handed over to the DCI for ballistic investigations after police feared it was a grenade.

The officer revealed on Sunday that police are now investigating the origin of the tear gas canister.

Last week, five suspects linked to the incident were arrested.

According to a police report, the five suspects were in a gang of nine that was spotted riding at high speed on three motor cycles near Mathare 29/30 terminus after allegedly robbing an M-Pesa shop in Huruma.

On spotting them, police who were patrolling the area, pursued them as they escaped to Mathare North and shortly after intercepted the motor cycles at Drive-In stage on Thika Road.

It’s at that point that one suspect hurled the object at the officers.

No casualties were reported during the incident.
