The office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has ,through its detectives, been able to reclaim 48 vehicles bought with the Ksh21 billion dam projects money in Elgeyo Marakwet.

According to a local daily, it has been established that the 48 double-cabin vehicles which were meant for transport services during the construction of the Arror and Kimwarer dams had been redirected for private use.

It is reported that 30 vehicles were impounded at a parking lot at Mitchell Cotts Building in Nairobi whereas 18 others were traced at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

A high placed source divulged that currently Mitchell Cotts is under tight security as officers are guarding the place to ensure that no vehicle leaves the premises.

Additionally, it is noted that some of the number plates on the vehicles had been removed.

The vehicles were seized by the sleuths last Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday, DPP Noordin Haji and DCI director George Kinoti visited the stalled Itare Dam in Nakuru, making it as the next place of focus for their investigators.

After the visit, the two are reported to have led an operation that saw detectives recover vehicles that were taken to Nakuru instead of Elgeyo Marakwet sites.

On Monday, Kinoti told off his critics that he would keep investigating on all high-profile cases as he has been given the powers to by the Kenyan Constitution.

Kinoti was responding to a backlash from Deputy President William Ruto, who had told him to leave graft cases to the EACC.
