President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday made a random visit to Deputy President William Ruto’s Annex office at Harambee House, Nairobi.
The random visit comes amid heightened war of words over corruption fight.
Reports indicate the president’s motorcade was seen at Ruto’s Annex office, leaving many unanswered questions on the purpose of visit.
Many have interpreted the visit as one aimed at cooling the DP over what many have interpreted as ‘Cold War’ between the two ‘buddies’.
However, according to a source who intimated to a local media outlet, the President met Ruto for lunch, with the nature of talks between the two remaining unclear.
It’s rare for the President to make such random visits to DP Ruto’s office or residence.
The visit comes amid a heated wave of politics with a section of Members of Parliament from the Jubilee Party led by Ngunjiri Wambugu (Nyeri Town) calling for the ouster of the Deputy President.
According to the MPs, who identify themselves as #TeamKenya, the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga has exposed the real theft of public funds.
Siaya Senator James Orengo has announced that he is willing to sponsor an impeachment motion against Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking during an event in Ugenya, Orengo mentioned that Dr Ruto can be shown the door if it is found that he has violated the Constitution or any other law.
He noted that Article 150 of the Constitution can be used to throw out DP Ruto.
“I want to repeat here and now that the Senate together with the National Assembly, we want to bring a motion of impeachment to kick out DP Ruto from office,” Orengo asserted.
The impeachment has been criticized by a section of Jubilee Mps allied to the Deputy President, who now claim opposition leader Raila Odinga is hiding behind the purported ouster to take over the Deputy President position.
Speaking on Tuesday outside parliament buildings, Nairobi, the 15 MPs said Raila is silently eyeing Ruto’s seat and is behind Orengo’s censure motion to have Ruto impeached.
The legislators are Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Sylvanus Osore (South Mugirango), Purity Ngirici (Kirinyaga Woman rep), Cate Waruguru (Laikipia woman rep), Nixon Korir (Langata), Kipsengret Koros (Sigowet-Soin), Benjamin Mwangi (Embakasi Central) and Joyce Korir (Bomet MP).
According to the Mps, the DP is being targeted by his enemies in the war on corruption.
The Deputy President has been on the receiving end after his remarks that the amount in question on the dams scandal is Sh7 million and not Sh21 million as claimed.
