Deputy President William Ruto has registered on National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) exercise dubbed Huduma Namba.

The Deputy President registered at Langata DCC Headquarters, ending days of speculations after he skipped the launch of the exercise last week.

He was accompanied by his son and daughter.

In response to snubbing claims, last week, DP Ruto revealed that he was meeting the Vice President of the Cuban Council of State and of Ministers, Ms Ines Maria Chapman.

During the weekend, Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli, called on DP Ruto to declare his stand on the exercise that has overly been described as crucial.

According to Atwoli, Ruto’s followers alias Team Tanga Tanga, had not called on their supporters to register for Huduma Namba.

“Watu wa tangatanga hawajaambia watu wachukue. Watu wa Rift valley wanasema wanangojea Ruto awaambie (Loosely translated as: Team Tanga Tanga has not told people to turn up and register for Huduma Namba, even the people in the Rift Valley are saying they are waiting for a signal from Ruto),” Atwoli said.

Atwoli urged DP Ruto to come clean on the exercise.

“He should declare his stand on this Huduma Namba. If he doesn’t like it he should come out and tell us why,” he said.

The sentiments have been shared by a section of leaders opposed to DP Ruto.

Ruto’s registration comes a day after First Lady Margaret Kenyatta led her family and State House Staff to obtain the unique identification number.

The Monday exercise was conducted at State House, Nairobi, by a team of registration clerks from the Ministry of Interior an Coordination of National Government.

Among those who joined the First Lady were State House Comptroller Kinuthia Mbugua, the Chief of Staff in the First Lady’s Office Constance Gakonyo and Deputy Comptroller George Kariuki.

Others included President Kenyatta’s Private Secretary Jomo Gecaga and Aide-De-Camp Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Stelu Lekolol.

The First Lady urged Kenyans to turn up in large number for the national exercise.

The Huduma Namba mass registration exercise was officially launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta last week on Tuesday at Masii Public Grounds in Machakos County after the high court gave it a clean bill of health.

In the spirit of rooting for the exercise that has been overly described as crucial, opposition leader Raila Odinga launched the registration in Likoni Mombasa, while Musalia Mudavadi was in Kakamega. Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka was in Murang’a, accompanied by Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula.
