Players in the travel industry have come out to voice their concerns against Bonfire Adventure, especially its owner Simon Kabu who they accuse of buying domains related to their businesses and redirecting the same to Bonfire Adventure’s own domains.

According to Bountiful Safaris (owned byEsther Njeri and Kelvin Migongo) and TrippyGo Tours (owned by Jalang’o and Dennis Omondi), Bonfire Adventures is playing dirty and dishonest when it has gone to the extent of buying all top level domains of competitors and redirected the same to its own websites.

It’s clear that TrippyGoTours.NET and .ORG as well as BountifulSafaris.NET and .ORG are all redirecting to BonfireAdventures.COM.

Already, the complainants have recorded their complaints with the police through the Department of Criminal Investigations and Communication Authority of Kenya, registering the cyber theft of their registered business names and trade marks.

Both Bountiful Safaris and TrippyGo Tours are also in the process of writing to Competition Authority to stop Bonfire Adventures which is using criminal acts to sabotage competitors.

Bonfire Adventures organises budget excursions and trips to individuals and groups. It has been in existent for close to 10 years now and the behaviour of the owners in warding competition shows you what the business might be engaging in to stay on top.

Social media users have variously accused the company of hijacking causes just to position the brand without regard to human life, ethics or decency.

As Kenyans continue to greatly use social media and the web to promote their businesses and get a bargain on products and services, it will be important to check on criminals, sometimes behind trusted brands, who will dilute the gains the country has achieved in the space.
