The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has opened applications for the position of Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, offering a gross monthly salary of Sh698,600.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, September 29, the Commission said the successful candidate will serve as the head of the TSC Secretariat and Accounting Officer.
The Secretary/CEO will also be responsible for keeping all records of the Commission and executing decisions made by the Commission.
Other responsibilities will include assigning duties to and supervising TSC staff, facilitating and coordinating the implementation of the Commission’s mandate, ensuring staff comply with public ethics and values, and overseeing the implementation of Part IV of the Teachers Service Commission Act.
The CEO will also perform other duties assigned by the Commission under the law.
According to TSC, applicants must be Kenyan citizens and hold a degree in education from a university recognised in Kenya.
Applicants must also have at least 10 years of experience in education, administration and management, public administration, human resource management or financial management.
They must also meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
The successful candidate will serve for five years and will be eligible for reappointment for one further five-year term.
“The Secretary shall hold office for a term of five years but shall be eligible for re-appointment for one further term of five years,” TSC said.
The successful applicant will earn a gross monthly salary of Sh698,600 and will receive an airtime allowance of Sh15,000 per month.
The CEO will also receive an annual leave allowance of Sh50,000 and an official vehicle with an engine capacity not exceeding 3,000cc.
TSC will provide an annual medical cover for the officer, one spouse and up to four children below the age of 25 who are fully dependent on the officer.
The successful candidate will also receive a service gratuity equivalent to 31 per cent of the annual pensionable emoluments for the term served.
The officer will be covered under a Group Personal Accident scheme at a value equivalent to three times the annual pensionable emoluments, alongside other benefits provided under the scheme.
The CEO will be eligible for a car loan of up to Sh6 million and a mortgage facility of up to Sh30 million.
The applicable interest rate will be 3 per cent per annum for the duration of the loan.
The mortgage facility will have a maximum repayment period of 20 years, while the car loan will have a maximum repayment period of five years.
The schemes will be administered and managed centrally by the National Treasury in accordance with applicable regulations and subject to availability of funds.
The officer will also receive daily subsistence allowance for local and foreign travel at rates reviewed and set by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission from time to time.
The position also comes with official security arrangements, which will not be converted into a cash benefit.
TSC said interested and qualified applicants must submit their applications on or before Friday, October 30, 2026, at 5pm.

The position became vacant following the departure of former TSC Secretary/CEO Dr Nancy Macharia after the end of her tenure in 2025. The Commission is currently headed on an acting basis by Evaleen Mitei, who serves as Acting CEO and Commission Secretary.
