Jubilee party candidate Ahmed Kolosh has won the Wajir by-election.

Kolosh garnered 11,053 votes to defeat Kenya African National Union’s Sheikh Ibrahim who managed 6,532 ballots.

According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, the Thursday mini poll attracted a 65 percent voter turnout, with 17,606 votes having been cast.

The votes were cast in 75 polling stations spread in four wards:  Arbajahan, Hadado/Athibohol, Adam Admasajide and Ganyure/Wagalla.

KANU’s Sheikh conceded defeat shortly after the final tally was announced.

Reports indicate the exercise was marred by failure of the biometric kits, prompting IEBC to extend the voting period by two hours.

Earlier Thursday morning, chaos were reported in Wajir Girls High School  and  Habaswein polling stations after the two candidates supporters clashed over voter bribery claims.

However, the situation was contained and voting went on.

The Orange Democratic Movement withdrew from the race on April 9, citing a deal with the Jubilee party.

However, reports indicate Deputy President William Ruto had a hand in the decision.

The seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court nullified the election of Mohamed Kolosh in January.
