The authorities have lined up 10 witnesses to testify against Naftali Kinuthia in the murder of Ivy Wangechi, a medical student at Moi University.

According to the police, the 10 include boda boda riders as well as her former colleagues at the Moi Referral Hospital, who witnessed the gruesome murder.

It is reported that his parents as well as Wangechi’s parents are also set to testify in court against the suspect.

This was after Kinuthia pleaded not guilty to the charges of murder on Tuesday in an Eldoret court.

Appearing before Senior Eldoret Magistrate Stephen Githinji, Kinuthia denied the charges against him.

He was accused of planning and executing the gruesome murder on April 9 in Eldoret.

The IT specialist is still in police custody as the prosecution requested for more time to complete investigations arguing that the detectives had limited time when he was hospitalized.

Additionally, Magistrate Githinji rejected Ms Wangechi’s family application to have the case transferred to Nairobi.

Githinji mentioned: “The incident happened here in Eldoret and most witnesses are within the same area.”

Another application by Kinuthia’s family for the release of the vehicle he used was also rejected by Magistrate Githinji.

During the mentioning of the case, the prosecution tabled results of medical tests that revealed that Kinuthia is fit for trial after undergoing mental assessment.

The hearing of the case will commence on May 10.
