The Standard Newspaper is on the spot for misrepresentation following a picture appearing on its front page.

In the local daily’s lead story ‘A cry for beloved women of Kenya’, the Standard paper used the picture of musician Faith Chepkirui Marende, falsely implying that the musician was killed by lover.

Kahawa Tungu has established that the musician is alive and kicking.

The daily used the musician’s picture instead of the image of a first year student stabbed to death by her boyfriend at Kaiboi Technical Training Institute in Nandi County.

The slain student, who shared the name – Faith Chepkirui- with Ms Marende was killed on February 17.

The student had allegedly reported constant threats from her boyfriend Mathew Kiptoo Yego, weeks before the man stabbed her three times on the neck and chest.

She passed on moments after she was rushed to a local hospital for medical attention.

Sources familiar with the matter told the media that the boyfriend – a second year in the same institution – got insecure after his victim approached him for a break-up.

Nandi North acting Deputy County commissioner Mr. Sammy Makhanu confirmed the incident.

“We received information that a student stabbed his counterpart based on relationship issues. We rushed to the scene and rushed the injured girl to a nearby mission hospital, sadly she succumbed due to the stab wounds on her neck, chest and head,” he said

The Friday misrepresentation, on the increasing cases of femicide cases, has raised eyebrows on serious editorial blunder by the Standard Group.

By the time this articles was published, the Standard Group had not issued a statement on the issue.

    The group risks libel suit.
