British most wanted terrorist Jermaine Grant was on Thursday sentenced to four years at Shimo La Tewa Maximu Prison.

Mombasa Chief Magistrate Evans Makori found Grant guilty of possessing bomb-making material.

The British national, who has been in detention for close to 10 years, has been linked to  Al Shabaab and the 2005 bombings in London’s underground railroad.

He was already serving another nine-year-jail term, following a forgery conviction in 2015.

“The accused is presently serving a lawful sentence of nine years for other offences for which he was jailed in 2015. This is the only case which has dragged on for eight years” the magistrate said.

Previously, Grant served and completed a two-year term for illegal entry into the country.

He was arrested in 2011 after police allegedly found chemicals switches and a bomb-making manual at his home in Mombasa.

Reports indicate the Anti-terror Unit officers, who arrested him, were in pursuit of another suspect.

Grant was apprehended alongside his wife Warda Breik and another suspect identified as Fuad Abubakar.

“We did not know him. In fact, we arrested him just because he was with Fuad Abubakar. We thought he was just some local from Old Town who was enjoying a motorbike ride with Fuad,” Martin Otieno, Head of the Anti-Terrorist Police Unit in Mombasa told The Standard.
