Harambee Stars coach Sebastién Migné named his provisional squad for the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday with a few noble faces missing.

Dennis Oliech’s dream of making a return to the side since retiring in 2016 appears to have gone up in smoke after he failed to make the cut.

In a recent interview Oliech, who remains Kenya’s all time top scorer with 34 goals, said he was ready to serve the country again if called upon.

“If the coach would call me and ask me to come and play for Harambee Stars, I cannot refuse. I can still contribute something to that team. I am still scoring goals,” Oliech is quoted by Nairobi News .

The 34-year-old signed for Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia, a move which was highly hailed as the second coming of the Menace, as he is nicknamed.

But he has struggled to regain his former menacing form and has only scored six goals in all competitions.

Oliech’s season is also over after injuring his wrist in a recent KPL match against Western Stima in Kisumu.

Another prominent exclusion from the team is Zesco United prolific striker Jesse Were.

Despite his great form for the Zambian outfit, Were has struggled to make a mark for country and has failed to score in 26 matches, even though he barely start games.

Also out is defender David “Cheche” Ochieng’.

Cheche has not settled at club level since his time in Sweden and recently signed a short term contract with AFC Leopards to keep active.
