Michael Adrian Kempe, born on September 13, 1996, in Kramfors, Sweden, is a professional ice hockey player who serves as a right winger and alternate captain for the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Kempe shoots left and has established himself as a versatile, high-scoring forward known for his speed, powerful shot, and two-way play.
Drafted by the Kings in the first round (29th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, he has spent his entire NHL career with the organization, growing from a young prospect into one of its key offensive leaders.
Siblings
Adrian has one older brother, Mario Kempe, who is also a professional hockey player.
Mario, eight years Adrian’s senior, played 52 games in the NHL with the Arizona Coyotes and later joined his brother in the Los Angeles Kings organization for a period.
The brothers share a close bond forged through their family’s deep involvement in hockey, with their father Mikael Kempe serving as a coach and skills instructor.

Career
Kempe’s journey in hockey began in Sweden, where he developed his skills in the Modo Hockey system before moving to North America.
After being drafted by the Kings, he spent time in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Ontario Reign, winning the Calder Cup in 2015.
He made his NHL debut in the 2016-17 season and gradually earned a full-time role.
Kempe broke out significantly in the 2021-22 season, posting career highs with 35 goals and 54 points, followed by an even stronger 2022-23 campaign where he scored 41 goals, the first Kings player to reach 40 goals in a season since Luc Robitaille.
Known for his consistency and clutch performances, he has played over 700 NHL games, primarily as a top-line winger alongside stars like Anze Kopitar.
In November 2025, he signed a lucrative eight-year, $85 million contract extension to remain with the Kings long-term.
He has also represented Sweden internationally, including winning gold at the 2018 IIHF World Championship.
Accolades
Kempe was named to his first NHL All-Star Game in 2022 and has led the Kings in goal scoring multiple times, including back-to-back 30-plus goal seasons.
His individual highlights include multiple 30-goal campaigns and strong playoff contributions, such as overtime goals.
On the international stage, he captured a gold medal with Sweden at the 2018 World Championship.
Kempe also won the AHL’s Calder Cup in 2015 and received recognition as a top performer at the U20 World Junior Championship.
