AFC Leopards has appointed Caroline Walusaga as the Acting Secretary General following the announcement that the current officeholder.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the club said, “The National Executive Committee hereby appoints Caroline Walusaga, one of our co-opted members, as the Acting Secretary General.”

The club added that Walusaga will serve in the role until the current term ends.

Former SG Gilbert Andugu, who was elected in June 2022, confirmed that he will step down from his position ahead of the club’s elections scheduled for June.

He cited personal reasons for his decision to exit the leadership.

“I’ve given my all in service to the club, and it’s time for new ideas and new leadership. I remain a passionate supporter of Ingwe and will continue supporting the club from the stands,” said Andugu.

Andugu won the Secretary General post after securing 432 votes, beating rivals Robert Situma who got 224 votes and Tonny Omusina with 49 votes. He had succeeded Oliver Sikuku, who completed two terms — the maximum allowed by the club’s constitution.

Before becoming Secretary General, Andugu served as chairman of branch heads and was known for his strong organizational skills and dedication to the club. A marketer by profession, he previously led the Mombasa branch starting in 2015, helping to grow its membership and support the AFC Leopards Cubs, who later won the Nairobi Region League.

During his time in office, Andugu led several internal improvements, especially within the club’s human resource department, making it more efficient and better structured.

As AFC Leopards prepares for its Annual General Meeting on Sunday, 29 June, attention is now turning to the upcoming elections and who will take over key leadership roles at one of Kenya’s oldest football clubs.
