Bharti Airtel has today revealed that its much talked about cross-border transfer of Airtel Money throughout East Africa will be operational by November 1st. Speaking during the 2014 East African CEO Business Summit in Kigali, Rwanda, Airtel Money Head Chidi Okpala, said that though planned for Africa, the initiative will enable Airtel Money customers to send, receive and withdraw money from their Airtel Money wallets.
The November launch will be a pilot first phase targeting – Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda. Having banked the approval of Central Banks of the Governments of Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, Bharti Airtel is mo psyched to launch this initiative in the region.

The next phase of this initiative will roll out the service to other Airtel operating countries within the next year.
The pilot project will also enable Bank of Africa (BOA) customers in Kenya and Uganda to send and receive money across the two countries.
