Airtel Kenya has today unveiled an ambitious soccer talent search programme that will focus on identifying and nurturing budding soccer talent from the grassroots onto the national stage. The program dubbed – Airtel Rising Stars – was launched in conjunction with  Manchester United, yes…. Manchester United.  The Airtel Rising Stars is an Africa-wide program that will provide a platform for upcoming soccer talent under the age of 17 years to showcase their skills to leading scouts, coaches and have an opportunity to further their football skills.

In Kenya, the initiative targets boys and girls in secondary schools across the country. The star search will kick off during this year’s Kenya Secondary Schools provincial finals next month culminating in an exclusive soccer clinic to be held in October in Tanzania under the tutelage of the Manchester United Soccer Schools coaching staff.

The launch of the program was attended by one of Manchester United’s legend and reputed prolific striker, Andrew (Andy) Cole.  A former England International, Cole spent seven seasons at the club and was part of the team that won five of the total 19 English Premier league titles.

The Airtel Rising Stars will commence at the provincial finals of the Kenya Secondary Schools games which will be held across all provinces countrywide between 13th to 23rd July while the national finals  will be held in Nairobi between 9th to 13th August.
