    Early Life

Alborosie was born Alberto D’Ascola on July 4, 1977, in Marsala, Sicily, Italy. He developed an interest in music at the age of 15 and began performing under the name Stena as part of the Italian reggae group Reggae National Tickets. The group gained popularity in Italy during the 1990s and helped introduce reggae music to a wider European audience.

Move to Jamaica and Solo Career

In 2001, Alborosie made a career-defining decision to go solo and relocate to Jamaica, where he committed himself fully to reggae music and culture. His move earned him respect within the reggae community, as he worked directly with Jamaican artists and producers rather than pursuing reggae from a distance.

In Jamaica, Alborosie expanded his skills beyond performing. He worked as an audio engineer and producer, collaborating with well-known artists such as Ky-Mani Marley and Gentleman. These behind-the-scenes roles contributed significantly to his professional credibility and income.

    Breakthrough Success

Alborosie has released multiple studio albums, with his music blending roots reggae, dancehall, and conscious lyrics. His international breakthrough came with the song “Kingston Town,” which became one of the most recognizable reggae tracks by a non-Jamaican artist. Another major hit, “Rastafari Anthem,” further cemented his status as a leading figure in modern reggae.

Over the years, Alborosie has released around ten albums as a solo artist and has remained active in touring and recording. He has also been closely associated with Greensleeves Records, a major label in reggae and dancehall music.

    Rastafari Faith

Alborosie is a committed member of the Rastafari movement, and his beliefs strongly influence his music. His lyrics often focus on spirituality, African identity, social justice, and unity, aligning him closely with traditional roots reggae values.

    Awards

In 2011, Alborosie won Best Reggae Act at the MOBO Awards, a major achievement that highlighted his global impact and acceptance within the reggae genre. The award recognized his consistency, authenticity, and contribution to reggae music beyond national boundaries.
