Nominated MP Joseph Khamis Denar of the Amani National Congress (ANC) has died following a road accident in Loresho, Nairobi.

His body has been moved to Lee Funeral Home.

In a statement, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula said Denar passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at around 7:00 a.m.

“It is with profound sorrow that I notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Khamis, MP,” the statement read.

Denar was nominated to the National Assembly after the 2022 General Elections under the ANC party. He served on the Departmental Committee on Sports & Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion & Equal Opportunities.

Born in 1969 in Kinango, Denar attended Mombasa Baptist High School, completing his KCE and KACE examinations between 1984 and 1989. He later earned a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (2000) and a Master’s in International Business Administration (2002) from United States International University (USIU), and a Bachelor of Laws (2006) from the University of Nairobi.

Before joining Parliament, Denar held several key positions in both public and private sectors. He served as Director at Coast Development Authority (2007-2010), Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya (2007-2008), Director at Kenya Airports Authority (2009-2012), Director at Kenya National Accreditation Services (2011-2012), and Council Member at both the University of Nairobi (2013-2018) and Moi University (2021-2022).

Speaker Wetang’ula described Denar as humble and committed to public service. “His passing is a great loss not only to the House but also to the nation at large,” he said.

He added that members have been appointed to liaise with Denar’s family and coordinate a befitting send-off, led by Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Owen Baya Yaa. Further details will be communicated in due course.
