Detectives have arrested another suspect in connection with the deadly violence and destruction witnessed during Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates’ meeting at Nembure Grounds in Embu County.
The suspect was arrested on Monday, September 14, 2026, in the Kithimu area of Embu town during a coordinated operation conducted by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters Operations Support Team (OAT) and the Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Branch (CRIB).
The latest arrest comes two days after the violence that disrupted the UDA meeting on Saturday, September 12.
The DCI said the arrest was part of an ongoing operation to identify and apprehend individuals believed to have participated in the violence.
Detectives are pursuing additional suspects linked to the unrest, which left one person dead and several police officers injured.
“The DCI remains relentless in pursuing those responsible for the criminal acts committed during the unrest. Those who participated in the violence, regardless of their motive or affiliation, will be identified, arrested and brought to justice,” the DCI said.
The agency had earlier confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the incident.
The latest arrest brings the number of suspects apprehended in connection with the violence to three, according to the DCI statements provided.
The violence broke out during a UDA delegates’ meeting presided over by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and attended by senior national and county government leaders.
Groups of youths engaged security officers in running battles before police brought the situation under control.
The unrest left one person dead and several police officers injured.
Several motor vehicles were also torched during the chaos, while other criminal acts were reported in the area.
The DCI has since launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the violence and the individuals involved.
The investigations are focused on identifying people suspected of taking part in attacks, arson, destruction of property, road blockades and assaults on police officers.
The DCI warned that political differences cannot be used to justify criminal activity.
“The DCI warns that political differences must never become a licence for lawlessness. No grievance, disagreement or political affiliation places anyone above the law,” the agency said.
