The Nairobi county Secretary Peter Kariuki has been arrested under unclear circumstances. He was arrested at the county offices by police. He was taken to the Milimani Law courts and later presented before Justice Chacha Mwita. It is still unclear what charges he was arrested for. The Equity bank of Kenya CEO James Mwangi has told Kenyans that they should warm up to the 16% tax levy on fuel so as to secure a better future. Lawyer and activists Okiya Omtatah has filed a case challenging the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) levied on fuel which has increased the cost of fuel. The activist has termed the increase that took effect on September 1 after a three year postponement as unlawful and irregular. He said that the increase contravenes the constitution and has caused the cost of basic goods to rapidly increase. Police seized 88 bags of illegal sugar in Busia town on Sunday morning. The sugar was being smuggled into the country through the Kenya Uganda Border. The illegal sugar, estimated to be worth at least KSh1.5 million, was packaged into 50kg bags and was being dispatched to different parts of the country. Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi has ruled that the proceedings against Deputy Chief Justice (DCJ) Philomena Mwilu shall rest at the point at which they had reached.
