Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary general Wilson Sossion has condemned demonstrations held in support of Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia. In a statement, Sossion claimed that the protests were in fact planned by TSC to defend Macharia over her “continued use of Northern Kenya as an employment corridor.” This he said was a “shameful, barbaric and primitive” action. “Constitutional office holders and state officers cannot sponsor demonstrations to defend their corrupt activities,” he said. A police officer attached to Deputy President William Ruto’s Harambee Annex Office is dead. Sergeant Kenei’s body was discovered at his Imara Daima Villa Franca estate home. 1.3 million (4.9%) Kenyan adults are living with HIV with the national HIV prevalence standing at 4.9%, a report has revealed. According to the report by Kenya Population-based HIV Impact Assessment, Hiv prevalence is higher in women at 6.6% (95% CI: 6.0%-7.1%), compared to men at 3.1% (95% CI: 2.7%-3.5%). In the survey conducted between June 2018 and February 2019, at least 139,000 (0.7%) children were found to be living with the virus. An administrative officer (AP) who on Tuesday shot a boda boda rider at Mama Lucy Hospital will be charged with murder. Kiambu Governor James Nyoro has named Joyce Wanjiku Ngugi, the widow of former Gatundu South MP Joseph Ngugi, as his deputy. She is a psychologist counsellor with a Masters degree in Education from Kenyatta University and previously served as the chairperson of the National Council of Children Services. A High Court has on Wednesday suspended a deportation order issued last week by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i. The CS ordered authorities to deport four Chinese nationals on Thursday after one Deng Heilan, was caught on tape whipping a Kenyan worker, Simon Osaka Silo. High Court judge Luka Kimaru also gave the DPP till Friday to file their responses. The case will be heard on February 25. National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) wants bus hailing app SWVL CEO and co-founder Mostafa Kandil prosecuted and the company forced to cease operations in Nairobi.
