A section of Mathare slums is on fire after a police officer dispersing protesting youths threw a burning tyre at a nearby house. A couple of homes in Mabatini area caught fire as well as two private schools; Maji Mazuri Primary School and Abundant Life School. Lawyer Assa Nyakundi on Wednesday failed to appear at a Makadara court due to ill-health. The lawyer is a suspect in the shooting of his son, Joseph Nyakundi who was laid to rest yesterday at the Lang’ata cemetery. Two women on Sunday disrupted business at a Ruaka based nightclub over a man. The unidentified women, both skimpily dressed, got into a fistfight at the Lavaranda Lounge 97 when a man showed interest in both of them. ODM Party leader Raila Odinga has blasted Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro who has proposed that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have their powers trimmed. Kenyatta National Referral Hospital (KNH) on Tuesday resolved to release at least 250 patients held at the facility over unpaid hospital bills. “The Board of Management of Kenyatta National Hospital has taken a decision to release 250 patients,” KNH said on Tuesday. This was following a Citizen TV expose that showed patients held in the referral hospital with the biggest number being women. Athi River detectives on Monday arrested a man connected with the brutal murder of lawyer Robert Chesang at his Lukenya home, Machakos County. The man has been identified as Nuno Hassan Jillo. The High Court has given the government a green light on the registration of huduma number. In a ruling issued on Monday, the court allowed the government to go ahead with the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS). Despite granting them the go-ahead orders, the court prohibited the government from including DNA in the biometrics as was earlier intended to. In addition to that, the court has also instructed the state not to coerce any citizen to offer personal information.
