Former Maendeleo Ya Wanawake chairperson Jane Kiano has died. Kiano, a member of the Council of Eminent Persons of Murang’a died at the Nairobi Hospital as she fought a brave battle against cancer of the lungs. “She battled bravely against lung cancer and we are very proud of her. She died at 10.30,” a family representative said in a statement. The deceased was the wife to Kenya’s first PhD holder Julius Gikonyo Kiano. Lamu leaders led by Lamu governor Fahim Yasin Twaha have asked the national government to appoint two people from the county to the board of the LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority (LCDA).
