The World Heritage Committee has added Lake Turkana National Parks on the list of World Heritage in Danger, notably because of the impact of a dam on the site. L.Turkana National Parks are constituted of Sibiloi National Park, the South Island and the Central Island National Parks. Kenya power has issued a statement rubbishing media reports that it has been procuring and installing faulty transformers, that risk the lives of their consumers. In an article published by a local daily, Kenya power was accused of being involved in dubious businesses with companies that supplied substandard transformers. The story stated that the transformers failed the company’s own quality tests; they were of poor build, the materials used to manufacture them were of poor quality, their oil was leaking, and they were losing too much power in what is called “load losses”. The Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji has ordered for the immediate arrest of the Perry Mansukh, the owner of Patel Dam which cost 47 lives in May. Mansukh is facing charges of manslaughter a day after the Water Cabinet Secretary, Simon Chelugui declared that the construction of the dam was not licensed therefore making the construction illegal. The DPP’s investigations revealed that the Dam was constructed by unqualified staff using farm equipment therefore leading to construction and design flaws. Business people protesting on the streets of Nairobi have been teargassed by the Anti-riot police as they tried to march to Parliament. The Nairobi Business Community accused the Jubilee government of killing their businesses especially with the importation of locally available goods.
