Three Kenya Forest Service officials have been suspended for allegedly being behind illegal charcoal trading and issuing of permits for its transportation in the coastal region. The charcoal business has led to the destruction of the Dakatcha Woodland in Kilifi County which has lost over 20,000 hectares over the past ten years. The officers are said to be running a cartel in conjunction with county government officials to aid in the business of charcoal despite the country-wide ban by the Environment CS. Two traffic officers were on Friday arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers along the Machakos-Wote road near Mukuyuni market in Kaiti sub-county. The two; Paul Mbolei and Bernard Kamau were caught taking bribes from PSV drivers and taken to Kola police station for grilling. EACC’s Lower East Director, Susan Kanyeki confirmed the incident saying that the officers had collected at least Ksh.3,000. “We had issued treated currency to passengers in public service vehicles,” she said. Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua and Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi on Friday involved in an accident where they fell into River Gucha while taking selfies on the Nyabisiongororo bridge. Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi on Friday took a swipe at embattled Nairobi County Governor, Mike Sonko saying that the he should not be impeached but sent back to jail. Lawyer Miguna Miguna has dismissed word going round that Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko had nominated him to the position of Deputy Governor. “Good Afternoon? Nairobi Askaris swept through the Central Business District (CBD) this morning to remove city beggars from the streets in a bid to make the CBD a beggar-free zone. The beggars are normally dropped in the morning and picked in the evening by people who are thought to be their “masters”. About 30 beggars were collected by the Askaris and were taken to Waithaka Rehabilitation Centre in Dagorreti.
