Three Kenya Forest Service officials have been suspended for allegedly being behind illegal charcoal trading and issuing of permits for its transportation in the coastal region. The charcoal business has led to the destruction of the Dakatcha Woodland in Kilifi County which has lost over 20,000 hectares over the past ten years. Two traffic officers were on Friday arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers along the Machakos-Wote road near Mukuyuni market in Kaiti sub-county. The two; Paul Mbolei and Bernard Kamau were caught taking bribes from PSV drivers and taken to Kola police station for grilling. Nairobi Askaris swept through the Central Business District (CBD) this morning to remove city beggars from the streets in a bid to make the CBD a beggar-free zone. The beggars are normally dropped in the morning and picked in the evening by people who are thought to be their “masters”.
