Nairobi County Police commander, Japheth Koome has suggested ways to avoid getting robbed on the streets in broad daylight or otherwise. The police boss reckons that Nairobians should walk in groups, but most importantly, they should avoid ‘enticing’ the criminal gangs that have taken over the Central Business District (CBD). Former Mombasa Senator, Hassan Omar has withdrawn his petition challenging Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho’s August win. The former legislator cites partiality of the judge, Justice Lydia Achode. ”It will be hypocritical for the petitioners to proceed with this matter when they believe that the honourable court is already biased against them,” he said in his withdrawal petition. Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) staff on Tuesday morning defended the referral hospital against sexual assault allegations that came to light last week on Friday. The employees are currently holding demonstrations outside the hospital where they are trading accusations with health activists over the authenticity of the sexual assault allegations. The allegations were raised on Friday against the hospital’s morgue attendants on social media. The whistle-blowers accused the attendants of sexually assaulting new mothers when going to breastfeed their children. Nyeri politicians have formed a ‘Whatsapp’ group going by the name ‘Gideon Moi for President.’ The group is made up of 256 members, the Star reports, and was formed on Sunday. ”We are very serious on this. The High Court on Monday ordered for a vote recount in the Lang’ata MP election following a petition challenging Nixon Korir’s August win. Justice Lucy Njuguna ordered for a recount in six polling stations. The court will in this case determine the spoilt and valid votes. The recount will take place on January 29, at the IEBC warehouse in Industrial Area. The matter will however be mentioned on January 24 before the deputy registrar of the High Court so as to allow the parties involved agree on how the exercise would be carried out. Former nominated Senator, Joy Gwendo has been charged charged with five counts of stealing and issuing bouncing cheques. She appeared before Anti-Corruption Court magistrate Lawrence Mugambi.
