nairobiNairobi County Police commander, Japheth Koome has suggested ways to avoid getting robbed on the streets in broad daylight or otherwise.

The police boss reckons that Nairobians should walk in groups, but most importantly, they should avoid ‘enticing’ the criminal gangs that have taken over the Central Business District (CBD).

He advised residents to ‘avoid looking expensive on some streets and to not have with them laptop bags, jewellery and handbags.’

The gangs have been terrorizing passers-by for the past two weeks. There have been cases of weave and earrings snatching, all in the CBD.

Governor Mike Sonko then formed an ‘anti-mugging squad’ that has been working with the Police.

”My office has today formed an anti-mugging squad which will work closely with Kenya Police. We’ve also received intelligence that some politicians and business people are funding youths to terrorize people. We are on lookout and several arrests will be made forthwith,” he said on social media.

Two people were on Tuesday shot dead Railways bridge near Haille Selassie roundabout. They are believed to have been leaders of one of the gangs.

Another one was killed at Globe Cinema Roundabout.
