Kilifi county, Magarini Polling Station presiding officer has been apprehended by the police for abandoning ballot boxes on Thursday. Nicholas Surei reportedly left the ballot boxes unattended after finding long queues at the constituency tallying centre. A search for him proved futile as he had switched off his mobile phone. Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet has warned of plans to ambush convoys transporting election materials from the polling stations to the tallying centres. Boinnet said that the national police service has information that there are plans to disrupt the transportation ballot boxes and the names of the people behind the supposed plans. “As the voting exercise comes to an end, ballot papers will be transported to Constituency Tallying Centres, for further tabulation. Four National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters protesting against the fresh presidential elections have been shot in Nyanza. The four are said to have clashed with the police as they tried to disperse crowds lighting bonfires on the roads. Of the four, three have been admitted to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga hospital with gun shot wounds. One person was also shot in Migori as they boycotted the elections as instructed by their leader, Raila Odinga. Kibera residents on Thursday morning protested against the fresh elections in the opposition stronghold. The Raila Odinga supporters blocked roads leading to the polling stations. The opposition supporters lit bonfires and kept people willing to exercise their civic duty from the polling stations. Former Budalangi MP, Ababu Namwamba on Tuesday submitted a petition to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko asking him to probe Siaya, Kisumu and Homabay county governors. Three voters on Tuesday moved to court to try and stop the fresh presidential elections slated for October 26. Samuel Mohochi, Gacheke Gachohi and Khalef Khalifa filed the case at the Supreme Court and will through the registrar, Esther Nyaiyaki give further directions. Acting Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Dr Fred Matiang’i has declared Wednesday, 25 October a holiday. The holiday, he says will allow Kenyans participate in the election scheduled for October 26. The CS also declared Thursday a holiday to allow Kenyans willing to exercise their civic duty a chance to do so. National Super Alliance (NASA) on Monday asked foreign envoys to keep off the country’s political affairs. According to the opposition leader, Raila Odinga, the diplomats were not being helpful by getting involved in the upcoming elections. NASA leader Raila Odinga’s sister Ruth Odinga and Kisumu Senator Fred Outa have been charged with malicious damage to property and disrupting an IEBC officials training on Wednesday. Hillcrest School Principal, Gabrielle Maina died of a gun shot wound on the neck, collapsed lungs and internal bleeding, Pathologist Johansen Oduor has said.
