Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) has asked the opposition, NASA to refrain from ‘blanket lynching’ the mobile telecommunications operators contracted by the IEBC to aid in transmitting election results during the August 8 elections. IEBC contracted Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom to provide a medium of the end-to-end transmission of election results in line with the Elections (Technology) Regulations, 2017. NASA Principal, Raila Odinga has linked telecommunications company, Safaricom to the nullified August 8 Presidential election. Speaking at the Capitol Hill offices, Odinga said that Safaricom colluded with IEBC and the IT firm Saffran to bungle the polls. Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko has set in motion investigations into the illegalities and irregularities committed by the IEBC as noted in the Supreme Court’s judgement. The DPP has ordered a team of prosecutors to establish whether the electoral body officials may have committed ‘criminal offences or may have aided, abeited, counseled or procured the commission of the offences.’ Tobiko has directed that the investigations be completed within 21 days.
