Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has moved to court seeking to have its operating certificate cancellation suspended. The organization says the NGO Board’s call to have their certificate cancelled was a gross violation to fair hearing. They want the decision overturned. In the letter dated 14 August, the Fazul Mahamed board notified KHRC of the certificate cancellation. Fazul’s move is according to the organization, damaging its image. They also noted that the deregistration was prejudicial and illegal. Deputy presiding officer, Caroline Odinga who was found dead on Saturday morning a few metres away from her home was apparently being interrogated by senior IEBC officials before her murder. The late IEBC ICT manager Chris Msando was laid to rest on Saturday at his home in Ugenya, Siaya county. The deceased was laid to rest in line with the Luo community traditions and later song and dance after the burial rites. His widow, Eva Buyu was caught on tape showcasing her dance moves together with other family members and locals. The dance was performed in the night and goes on for close to two weeks after the departed is buried. Mike Sonko has been sworn in as Nairobi’s second County Governor at the Uhuru Park. The government has made changes to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s security detail. Kenyatta now has assigned to him a new aide de-camp, Lt. Col Victor Mburu taking over from Lt. Maina Kiai, a human rights activist with the Kenya Human Rights Commission was on Sunday morning detained at JKIA. Immigration officers are said to have demanded for his travel clearance yet he was not a government official. Kiai missed his 7.50 am flight because the immigration officials could not stamp his passport. There was drama on Saturday in Ugenya as youths blocked all major roads leading to the late Chris Msando’s funeral service. Raila Odinga in his presidential election petition wants the Supreme Court judges to nullify Uhuru Kenyatta’s win should they find fault in the just concluded poll. In the petition filed on Friday night, NASA wants the IEBC to conduct a fresh round of polls should the court find the commission culpable of any misdeeds during and after the election. The petitioners, want the fresh polls done in strict conformity with the Constitution and the Elections Act. Slain IEBC ICT manager, Chris Msando’s body on Friday afternoon arrived at Kisumu International Airport ahead of his burial in Ugenya. The body arrived at 1.15 pm aboard a Kenya Airways Flight accompanied by friends and family. Kisumu Governor elect, Anyang Nyong’o and his wife Dorothy were among leaders who received the body at the airport. Also present was Kisumu Central MP-elect Fred Ouda. Kisumu Governor elect, Anyang Nyong’o has asked that his swearing in ceremony cost be cut down to 1 million. The ceremony was going to cost the county government 12 million.
