Kenya Power is now seeking an approval from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) to hike power bills by 20 percent to turn around from dwindling fortunes. Daniel Etyang, the AP police officer killed in Ruaka, was killed by policemen known to him, it has emerged. Etyang was shot dead alongside Galgalo Hussein Wako, a taxi driver whom they were together in what the police said was a foiled robbery. The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has lowered its benchmark lending rate by 0.5 percent to 8.5 percent, days after the interest rate cap was repealed. The last time the benchmark lending rate was lowered was in 2008, and has remained at 9 percent since then. Police in Kenyenya, Kisii County are on the spot after letting go a Machoge Borabu CDF officer who was captured on camera assaulting a student who had gone to seek for CDF bursary funds. Police are investigating a case where ten underage girls were last week rescued from a brothel in Ruaka suspected to be operated by a former Cabinet Secretary. The police raided the brothel in a building 200 metres from Ruaka Shopping Centre where they arrested three patrons of the brothel and several other ‘clients’ who were converted to state witnesses. TV and radio stations in Tanzania risk being fined or their licences withdrawn for hiring ‘non-professionals’ like DJs and comedians, the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has said. Nairobi Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti has ordered the Standard Chartered Bank to produce bank statements showing the transactions between Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), the bank, and Tripple A Capital in Ksh827 million graft case.
