Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) has come out to condemn deductions implemented on the pay slips of female teachers by newly formed Kenya Women Teachers Association (Kewota) through Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC). Only 20 percent (308 of 1,572) of students who sat for their Kenya School of Law (KSL) bar exams in November 2018 managed to qualify to be admitted into practice. This left 80 percent failed, reviving the debate on mass failures of students in KSL bar exams that has dominated for years. Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) head of communications Wallace Kantai on Wednesday was pushed to the wall by the Consumers Federation of Kenya (Cofek) and concerned Kenyans over the translation of the word ‘bank’ to ‘banki’ in Swahili on the new currency. Kenyans have been in the recent past engaged in a debate over the translation, terming ‘banki’ as not being the correct translation to Swahili for English word bank. Several human rights activists and Sudan Nationals were on Wednesday teargassed by police in Nairobi, while protesting against atrocities in Sudan. Entry level public servants now will be employed on a three-year contract, the Public Service Commission (PSC) has said. The move, according to PSC, is aimed at reducing the ballooning public wage bill, at the same time lifting the quality of services in public offices. Two Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) University students have been arrested in Kiambu after being found baking cookies laced with bhang. The two, John Gitonga and Robert Ndee were baking the illicit cookies in their house in Githurahi Kimbo estate on Tuesday when the cops raided after a tip off from members of the public. Africa Merchant Assurance Company (Amaco) Insurance yesterday lost its office furniture to auctioneers over a Ksh15 million debt it owes to Mama Rael Medical Clinic. Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris is now facing eviction from a Ksh300 million palatial home in Kitisuru, which the alleged owner claims she (Passaris) is occupying illegally. One of the suspects filmed whipping another man ruthlessly has been arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) detectives. Joseph Pasile Mulata, 65, was arrested in Sajiloni area of Dalalekutuk ward in Kajiado Central. Kericho County Referral Hospital patient isolated over a suspected case of Ebola infection has tested negative for the deadly disease. Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua today led an operation in Machakos Town where the county health department closed over 10 clinics near the Machakos County Referral Hospital.
