Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) are investigating top officers of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco) in a Ksh14.2 billion land compensation scandal. According to reports, the officers, during the construction of Nairobi-Mombasa high voltage power line, mirrored what happened during the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) construction by inflating land prices for compensation. Details have emerged of how Raymond Oruo, current KCB Sports Manager, was fired from KRU, and later hired at KCB after hiding his fraudulent past at the union. Jambo Pay has said that it will not renew contract with Nairobi County as its revenue collection platform. The contract between the company and the county government expires on April 7, 2019. This comes a month after the county government suspended Jambo Pay contract to collect revenue on behalf of Nairobi City County until further notice, early last month. Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi is facing allegations of assaulting his father, Mulyungi Kithonga, removing his front teeth. The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) has stood its ground on the strike slotted for Monday, February 4. The Union’s secretary General Seth Panyako said that it will be the worst in the country. Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) has announced that it will invest USD200 million (approximately Ksh20 billion) in Airtel Africa to help the telco offset its debt burden. The money will be given through a primary equity issuance in the company. Police yesterday in conjunction with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) raided Africa Spirits Thika Factory and seized five containers loaded with illicit spirit and fake excise stamps covered under maize bags. This comes hours after Ugandan forces unravelled ivory cartel operating in Africa, that has caused the death of over 325 elephants. Two fraudsters accused of stealing over Ksh299 million from various accounts in Family Bank and Chase Bank through hacking and electronic fraud have been released on bail. The two, Martin Machere Karuri and Reuben Tum, have been releases on a Ksh1 million cash bail or a bond of similar amount and a Ksh500,000 bond or a cash bail of Ksh300,000 respectively. The family of Chinese tourist killed in Lake Naivasha by a hippopotamus will be paid a sum of Ksh25.5 million in compensation, the court has ruled. Luo Yi, 28, was attacked by the animal while on her stay at Sun African Limited Hotel in Naivasha, then trading as Lake Naivasha Country Club. The incidence is said to have happened on April 21, 2013, the same day she checked into the hotel. She sustained injuries that are said to have resulted to her death.
