Police have seized over 12 tonnes of suspected contraband sugar in Eldoret being offloaded in a leading supermarket. The officers accompanied by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials intercepted a truck laden with cargo packed in 50kg bags while being offloaded to the warehouse of the supermarket. “We were alerted by members of the public about the arrival of suspicious consignment of imported sugar at the warehouse owned by the stated chain store. The government is holding 89 containers at the Inland Container Port in Embakasi with fake goods worth Ksh1.2 billion. The Deputy Head of Public Service Wanyama Musiambo has said that the goods will be destroyed. Among the goods in the containers include inner-wears, electric cables and cooking oil. The Mediamax-owned newspaper published their last weekend edition on June 9, sending their weekend readers to blackout this weekend. Facebook users on the Safaricom Customer Care Page have been angered by a case where a subscriber sent Ksh10,000 airtime by mistake, and Safaricom has been unable to reverse. According to the customer care agent in charge of the page, the recipient had used part of the airtime, hence they were unable to reverse the money. “Hi Hasham, The recipient has used part of the airtime for a reversal to be effected,” replied Safaricom on request for reversal. Auditor-General Edward Ouko has unearthed yet another scandal in the Ministry of Health worth Ksh2.7 billion. According to a report Ouko tabled in parliament, the ministry cannot account for the money spent on the controversial purchase of portable container clinics, free maternity, family planning and managed equipment service in the 2015/16 financial year. “Out of the 100 portable clinic containers contracted to be supplied by M/s Estama Investment Limited, only 80 LPOs were availed for audit review,” Mr Ouko says in the report. The 2018/2019 budget is out and the CS Henry Rotich has indicated that Kenya will spend approximately Ksh2.55 trillion. The Court of Appeal has dismissed a petition by Jack Ranguma against |Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o citing lack of merit in the case. Ranguma, the former Kisumu governor, lost to Prof. Nyong’o in the 2017 Kisumu Gubernatorial race and moved to the High Court in a suit against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the county Returning Officer and Prof. Nyong’o. The judge further ordered that Ranguma pay Ksh.5million in damages to the respondents.
