Meru Diocese is in mourning following the gruesome death of a Catholic priest who was reportedly stabbed twice in the head on Tuesday. The 32-year-old priest, Father Eutycas Murangiri Muthuri, was attacked by unknown individuals outside a popular entertainment spot at Makutano shopping center in Imenti North. He is noted to have died on the spot following the injuries. Business tycoon Jaswat Rai is claimed to have acquired the financially troubled Kisumu Molasses Plant from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family for Ksh7 billion. It is reported that the Molasses Plant, which has been experiencing problems for close to five years, started facing the financial challenges when Mumias Sugar Company went under. Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip has been admitted to hospital following an attack by unknown people in Kasarani. According to reports, the legislator has been admitted at Aga Khan hospital and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) fighting for his life. The High Court has referred the case challenging the new currency notes to the Chief Justice, David Maraga for him to set up a bench to hear the matter. The Central Bank of Kenya Governor Patrick Njoroge on Monday laid down regulations that Kenyans with huge amounts of money will have to meet to exchange their money for the new generation currency. During a press conference, Mr Njoroge noted that the government will educate the public on how to go about the demonetization process. East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament (MP) Simon Mbugua has filed a petition that seeks to oust Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Patrick Njoroge for allegedly flouting the law with new bank notes. The petition has also challenged the rolling out of the new currency notes that were unveiled during Madaraka Day celebrations. According to the legislator, CBK did not involve the public in the printing and unveiling of the new currencies. President Uhuru Kenyatta’s foodstuff donation to the Muslim community last week has reportedly mysteriously gone missing. The Justice and Development (KEJUDE) Trust has filed an application to oppose the appointment of James Githii Mburu as the commissioner general of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). Detectives from the Directorate Criminal Investigations (DCI) have on Saturday arrested a man suspected to be linked to the murder of Police Constable Hellen Kwamboka. According to the DCI, the suspect, Erick Onyono Nyakundi, was discovered at his hideout in Suam, near the Kenya-Uganda border. The Government of Kenya has announced the abolishment of all older Ksh1,000 bank notes. Declaring during the Madaraka Day celebrations, the Central Bank of Kenya Governor Patrick Njoroge noted that they have launched new bank notes hence the abolishment of the old ones. Speaking after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s speech at Narok during the celebrations, Njoroge mentioned: “We have launched new banknotes in accordance with the constitution. “We are withdrawing all the older Ksh.1,000 bank notes. Kisumu’s Sunset Hotel has sent all its staff members home following reported prolonged financial difficulties. In a letter sent to the Ministry of Labour on Friday, the hotel management note that it has rendered its workers redundant due to “constant reduction in the flow of business.” The more than 50 employees who were still working at the struggling hotel were declared redundant effective May 31.
