The DCI have arrested an Australian man, Benjamin Gsull, who resides in Nairobi after detectives raided his house. According to the DCI, Gsull was arrested for allegedly covering and switching off CCTV cameras of an apartment in Nairobi. A student of Butere Girls High School in Kakamega County was found dead on Friday at the school’s dormitory. The 17-year old girl’s body was allegedly found hanging in the school dormitory. Speaking on the matter, OCPD Boniface Lisiolo stated that police have already launched investigations on the death of the deceased, Elizabeth Musoi Muunya. The Supreme Court of Kenya has upheld the election of Wajir Governor Mohammed Abdi on Friday afternoon. In a ruling read by the Chief Justice David Maraga and his counterpart Justice Smokin Wanjala, the duo stated that given the submissions made on the case, the court rules that he was validly elected. The ruling saw four out of the six-judge bench finding that the two lower courts wrongly assumed jurisdiction to rule on the governor’s academic papers. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested Wajir County Assembly clerk, Osman Mohamed, over an alleged Ksh26 million graft. According to the anti-corruption body, Mr Mohamed has been arrested for declining to produce documents on purchase of Ksh26 million vehicles for the governor. His arrest comes a day after the EACC froze accounts claimed to belong to the nephew of Wajir Govenor Mohammed Abdi in the county corruption purge. Nakuru County Assembly Deputy Speaker Samuel Tonui, has been awarded Ksh200,000 for being unlawfully impeached. The High Court in Nakuru, through Justice Janet Mulwa, found that the speaker and the clerk had violated Tonui’s rights by failing to give him enough time to prepare for his defense and failing to give him all relevant documents. “Petitioner’s right to fair administrative action has been breached by the speaker (Susan Kihika),” Justice Mulwa noted. Human right defender Caroline Mwatha’s husband, Joshua Ochieng’ has finally spoken out after the autopsy report of his wife’s cause of death was released. Speaking to the media, Ochieng’ stated that he has left “the matter to God,” as he has no choice but to accept the results. The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has slashed fuel prices in February review, set to take effect from February 15 to March 14, 2019. According to a statement from the regulator, the prices for petroleum products have decreased by: Ksh4.12 for super petrol, Ksh6.28 diesel and for kerosene . “The pump for the prices are inclusive of 8% Value Added Tax (V.A.T) in line with provisions of the Finance Acts 2018,” read part of the statement.
