The company has launched a new promotional tariff called Jienjoy na Mbao which is set to last for 60 days (2 months). Through the new bundle, Orange Mobile customers will enjoy a daily 200 minutes on-net calls, 100 on-net SMS and 10MB of data at a cost of only Shs. 20 per day. Kenya ICT Board is set to host the Connected Kenya Summit 2011 in partnership with Safaricom . The event will be happening at Leisure Lodge Resort from the 18th of April to 21st April 2011. The event was previously called the Connected Government Summit and it will this time include a bigger representation of the private sector. Orange Kenya is set to launch lower calling rates tomorrow. Sources tell me that we might see major reductions in data and SMS rates. Orange has previously fought hard against price wars and lobbied the Ministry of information and communications to regulate how much low a player can lower its rates. AOL is in overdrive to increase its African influence. The company which has recently acquired two major blogs, Techcrunch and HuffingtonPost, is now courting Nation Media group (East and Central Africa largest media house) to be its agent in the region. A London judge has ruled that the controversial Wikileaks head, Julian Assange,  to be extradited to Sweden for further questioning on allegations of sexual offences. The court has granted Assange 7 days to appeal against the deccision. Assange’s case had been adjourned for todayon January 11. He first had to stay at a friends mansion in Norfolk, London, but that was amended later to a different location in London. He would have to pay a £200,000 cash deposit, then a further £40,000 in sureties of £20,000 his movement is restricted for teh 7 days awaiting his appeal.

Safaricom is upgrading its systems on Saturday for a better experience to its over 17 million subscribers. The upgrade will start from 8 pm on Saturday 26th to 10 am on Sunday 27th February 2011 and will result in the migration from the current billing system to a new platform.
