After blogging about the Safaricom call-centre staff retired and sacked because they developed ENT problems, I got more from some current employees at Safaricom. I received over 13 emails with all manner of complaints. The one which stood out is this one. Hi Robert, I joined Safaricom in 2009 as customer care representative. We had been promised confirmation once we are through with 3 months probation which was later pushed to six and before we knew it we were given the bad news. We will be signing contracts every six months which is performance based. We later found out the…

A group of 20 former and current Safaricom customer care agents, some “retired” because they could not use headsets anymore, are now taking legal action against Safaricom. The agents who have sought redress from almost every institution and have been blocked by Safaricom killing their story through intimidation, arm-twisting and bribery. The list of those they have told their story to reads like a who-is-who in the Kenyan media. Safaricom has relied on cheap headsets at its Customer Care facility located along Mombasa road. Now most of current and former call-centre staff are suffering from Acoustic Shock syndrome. This is…

Reports reaching us from Mombasa indicate that the Education PS has banned the LIVE BROADCAST of the Butere Girls play, Shackles of Doom. The play which is currently being staged in Mombasa shows the kind of society we live in where now every government appointment and nomination is dominated by one ethnic group. This is a problem which few want to address. Nobody wants to talk about tribalism openly because the National Cohesion and Integration Commission believe that anyone who point out such in the society should be charged with hate speech. Here is the video of part of the play. h

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero late Tuesday evening interdicted four senior officers over a loss of Sh180 million related to the infamous ‘air supplies’ at City Hall. This is the first time senior officers have been interdicted at the Nairobi  County Government over malpractices. Ten others from the Procurement Department, City Engineering, Treasury and Inspection and Acceptance Committee are under investigations in what could turn out to the biggest purge on corruption by Kidero since he was elected. Kidero also revealed 25 companies which he termed as notorious in the game of ‘air supply’ which are under investigations. Their directors are also…

By Okoiti Okiya Omtatah The Chief Justice Dr. Willy Mutunga should shut the hell up! When my Petition No. 311 of 2012, which challenged the corruption in the IEBC process of procuring a BVR solution for Kenya, was being frustrated in the High Court, I wrote to him mid last year but he took no action. To date he has not replied to my letter which I hand delivered to his office. What his court has written here, on page 85-86 of their ruling, is bullshit. What does the Supreme Court mean by: “It is, indeed, likely that the acquisition…

Things happened the way they happened (Uhuru won in a questionable electoral process). I believe that our Supreme Court did not rule fairly since their ruling is based on lack of evidence which they massively threw out on very flimsy grounds. But that is a story for another day. Yes Kenya must move on but with an honest analysis of the situation. CORD has proposed that Kalonzo return to parliament and lead the coalition from the parliament. Raila has said that he will remain outside parliament and be the leader of the coalition outside parliament. I don’t like this arrangement.…

Kenyan government spokesman is angered by the existence of Facebook pages impersonating the First family and state house. Through Facebook postings, Muthui Kariuki, is asking Kenyans to ignore the many Facebook pages  which have been created for the children of Uhuru Kenyatta. In another Facebook post, the government spokesman added; Facebook currently has hundreds of pages and accounts impersonating all manner of people. I would like to caution Kenyans that they do not share their personal details with any organization purporting to offer jobs unless they can provide a fixed address, land-line number and proper registration details. One such page…

By Kegurio Macharia A strange consensus has emerged that something called “social media” is dangerous. That traditional media houses advance and disseminate this idea is unsurprising. Social media has been instrumental in exposing traditional media’s complicity with power and silence over the deeply and meaningfully political, a silence made glaringly evident when juxtaposed against the evidence adduced through social media. Thus, I am not surprised that various media houses have published articles and posted video clips critiquing social media and solicited interviews that denounce “social media” for inciting passions. Yet the passion with which “social media” has been attacked by…

K24 which is owned by Uhuru Kenyatta’s family, hass today had one off those foot-in-the-mouth times. The recently re-launched media house sent this tweet just after the one hour Supreme Court’s sitting this morning; The media house then immediately claimed that their Twitter account was hacked. The damage had already been done. The media house has access to the President-elect in a way no media house has since he owns the media house. It is also rare that a hacker will gain access to an account for just around 10 seconds. This is a goof which might reveal what K24…
