In the remote stretches of Isiolo County, the classroom experience at Gotu Primary School has been transformed by improved network connectivity, bringing digital learning within reach for both students and teachers. The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya relies heavily on electronic learning tools, making access to reliable internet essential. For schools in isolated areas like Gotu, the absence of connectivity has long limited educational opportunities and widened disparities. Teacher Vincent Maina, who joined Gotu Primary in 2015, recalls the challenges vividly. “Teaching here was tough. There was no network, and insecurity over scarce resources added to the difficulties. Since connectivity…

At least one person was killed at a rally for Ugandan opposition politician Bobi Wine, police said Friday, in the latest violence before elections in January. President Yoweri Museveni is seeking to extend his 40-year rule but is opposed by Wine, a singer turned politician whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi. The 43-year-old has become hugely popular among many of Uganda’s young people but faces a deeply entrenched political machine led by the 81-year-old Museveni. The Ugandan police force said security forces deployed to eastern Iganga town “faced attacks, including stone-throwing incited by the candidate”. “Officers responded to the violence…

The UK’s aviation regulator said there would be “some disruption and cancellations to flights” though the impact at airports appears to be limited. Airbus said it discovered the issue after an investigation into an incident in which a plane flying…

For many Kenyans, mobile connectivity is an indispensable part of daily life. But in the remote expanses of northern Kenya, the simple act of making a phone call or accessing mobile money has long required extraordinary effort—long walks in search of a signal or climbing hills to catch a faint network bar. The landscape is now shifting. Expanded telecom coverage, largely powered by the Universal Service Fund (USF), is beginning to ease long-standing isolation in counties such as Marsabit, Turkana, Baringo, and West Pokot. The initiative is redefining how residents interact with government services, conduct business and safeguard their communities.…
